Professor Aremu has his Ph.D. in International Relations with emphasis on International Economic Relations. He started his working career in the Research Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 1980 as an Assistant Economist, and rose through the ranks to become Acting Assistant Director of Research before he voluntarily retired in December 1992 to establish Market Link Group. Dr Aremu was an Associate Senior Lecturer at the Covenant University where he served as a pioneer member of the Board of Regents till 2010. He equally acted as the Vice-Chancellor between 2004 and 2005.

 

Professor Aremu was appointed by the European Union (EU) as the Monitoring Expert on the Establishment of an ECOWAS Investment Guarantee/Reinsurance Agency. Earlier in 2008, EU equally appointed him as the Financial Expert to draft ECOWAS Community Investment Code and the Investment Policy Framework in preparation for the ECOWAS Common Investment Market (ECIM) of the Region in 2007. Before then, he was appointed a member of Thematic Group on Investment in the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) negotiation between European Union and ECOWAS Commission in 2005. This assignment is doubly combined with his current position (since 2007) in ECOWAS Commission as the Lead Consultant on the ECIM for the region (coordinating the establishment of Regional Payments and Settlement System, Regional Capital Market Integration, Common Code and Policy, among others). United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) appointed him as the National Coordinator/County Team Leader of UNIDO Investment Survey in Nigeria. Also, the Federal Government of Nigeria appointed Aremu, among other experts, to review the Nigeria Trade and

 

Investment Policy for implementation under the current Transformation Agenda of the government.

 

Professor Aremu has been a life member of both the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) since 1990 as well as the Nigerian Society of International Law (NSIL) since 1998. He is among the first Merit Award Winners of NSIL (Asaba, 2005); the current National Publicity Secretary of the Society (NSIL) since 2004; and also, a member of NSIL Research Group. He is equally a member of Nigerian Institute of International Affairs since 1993.
